Eight Porsche’s along with two VW Beetles joined 127 other cars in the Ashland Car Show this year. Show chairman had planned on 100 cars so parking was limited. Weather was bright and sunny with temperatures in the mid-90s. There were plenty of activities going on around us with lots of food and drink. Thanks to our able Porsche judges, Ken Kusik of Lincoln, and the infamous Omaha sister duo Sandy Bruso and Sally Knapp. They did their job well and results came in quickly.
Taking top honors in the Porsche/VW class was Omaha’s Bob Lynch in his 1956 356A. Boy did that black paint job really shine! Sandy mentioned you had to wear sun glasses next to it. Coming in a close second was Lincoln’s Ed Ubben in his 1957 356 1600S. Taking third place was a beautifully restored 1954 VW Beetle with Euro specs brought into the country years ago by a military member returning to the US. The owner, Brynor Geerdls from Omaha is still researching the history of the car. I must say the car was in much better shape than I am at the same age.
Several members followed me over to our house for some light refreshments afterward. Thanks for all those that attended this local event and made it a big success for the town of Ashland. We hope to see you at the Schworer VW Car Show Aug 26 or the Lauritzen Garden Show later this fall.
